I'm not sure how to describe it but it sounds like a midi file, which does have a charm. The song is pretty nice to listen to, and one thing that caught my attention was the trancy pad with it's catchy pattern. I think the weakest part of the song is the kick, which doesn't sound very impactful and I think it has unnecessary reverb. I'm guessing you used kicker in lmms? Another thing I think that could be improved in this track is the clarity, because some sounds (like the kick) get somewhat drowned out by other sounds in the chrous. It's a charming song otherwise though :)

CelestialChaos responds:

Thanks for the review! That’s as loud as I could get the kick, unfortunately, that’s the punchiest one I have without maxing out the levels. It’s sounds like a midi file because it is, I’m broke and that’s the music making program I have lol.

Pretty OK, although I'd like more variation. The song keeps going with the same melody (or arpeggio) for pretty much the whole song making it rather boring to listen to, making the moments at 1:34 and 2:24 feel refreshing, before the song went back to the same pattern. I feel like the song could've ended at 2:27 too since it sounded like an outro considering the silence, but it kept going with the same pattern except with new instruments. So what I think you could work on is the variation and structure.

I was not expecting such improvement over your last song.. not bad

Casporb responds:

What could make it better?

Aside from the clipping I do like the song

It's from a time before...uh...good mixes. >.> or leveling....<.<

Dayum! Feels a bit empty and slow to me but those drums are really nice. All sounds play together nicely too.

JManDJGMD responds:

Thank you for the feedback! I agree, it is a little empty. I will work to improve on that in the future!

Altough it is very repetetive and empty the drum pattern is nice :)

That's a lot of audible clipping... A tip to reduce it is to do gain staging by turning down every volume knob and gradually turning them up again to an appropriate level for each instrument. I usually start with the kick and snare. Another tip is to EQ out unimportant frequencies from your instruments to give room for other instruments.

Okey... well clipping is a kind of distorted noise that occurs when sounds go above 0db and loses part of it's signal. This is especially noticeable after 1:41 in your song but can also be heard when the heavy kicks and snares play throughout the song. You can tell it's gone above 0db if the orange doesn't fit in the visualization.

Casporb responds:

I really can't understand stuff like that... Sorry.
Also, where does that happen?

Edit: Oh, at that bit it's intentional.
Another Edit: Looking back, in 2023, I agree with you. I can't believe how shit I was back then.

Makes me actually uneasy, very well done.
